Green Tea Benefits

Geen teaGreen tea has been used for thousands of years by the Chinese because of all of its benefits to health and the immune system. The main green tea benefits have been known to cure diseases such as cancer and other illnesses that otherwise would cause great harm to the body. I think it’s safe to say that there is no other food or drink out there that provides as many benefits to the health of the human body as green tea does.

The many benefits of green tea outweigh those of other teas and provide the body with nourishment, and hydration that it needs to be healthy. For thousands of years, the Chinese have been using green tea to treat things as small as headaches, to things as large as depression. It has such a wide array of treatments that a scientific study was conducted in 1994 to help treat esophageal cancer in men, of which it did. It can even help with weight loss, of which there are many benefits to green tea and weight loss.

So why is green tea so good for you? What makes it such a great remedy? The answer lies within the fact that green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). The EGCG is one of the most powerful anti-oxidants known to man. It inhibits the grown of cancer cells, and even kills cancer cells without at all harming healthy tissue within the body. Additionally, it has been known to lower LDL cholesterol levels in people, and preventing the formation of blood clots in the veins. This directly means that green tea prevents heart attacks and strokes in people, and will thusly make them live longer.

Here’s an example of how well green tea benefits the body. Ever heard of the “French Paradox”? It is a question as to why the French have a lower rate of heart attack and stroke than Americans, despite having a diet that is more rich in fat and cholesterol. The answer lies in the green tea. The French are known to drink an abrupt amount of green tea, and therefore they burn fat much more quickly than other cultures which do not consume the tea, so they have a lower risk of heart attack and strokes as a result. Pretty neat huh? So drink more green tea daily to increase your health.

There are many other Chinese teas also which provide health benefits, but none of them provide the same benefits as green tea does. This is because green tea is prepared much more differently than other teas of the Chinese nature. Green tea leaves are steamed, which allows the EGCG to be preserved within the tea, instead of oxidized, as what happens with it in other teas where fermentation is the mode of process. The EGCG remains a much higher level in the tea when it is steamed as opposed to fermented.

What kinds of green tea are there?

There are many other types of green tea. The most common types of green tea are Chinese green tea and Japanese green tea. Both of these green teas provide essentially the same health benefits, but are made a little differently. Chinese green goes through a longer fermenting process than Japanese green tea, and thus has a sweeter flavor to it than Japanese. Despite the flavor differences, both teas have plenty of green tea benefits for the body, and both of them will satisfy your need for green tea.
